6. What is the difference between single and double wall tents?
A: A double wall tent uses a rain fly over the tent and a single wall tent not.
A tent needs to satisfy two functions: repel water from rain and dew on the outside and to breathe in order to eliminate condensation from the inside.
A double wall tent repels outside moisture with a waterproof rain fly, and it eliminates inside moisture with breathable tent walls. A single wall tent performs both of these tasks with just the tent wall, which is usually a laminate of waterproof and breathable materials.
Double wall tents have more parts, are heavier, and cost less than single wall tents. Consequently single wall tents are most often used by backpackers, mountain climbers, and bicycle or motorcycle campers.
7. Do I need footprints? Do the footprints cover the vestibules?
A: A footprint will increase the life of the floor and protect it from damage. However, it is not needed for the function of the tent. The groundsheet fabric is water-proof and puncture-proof.
Some people like to have footprints to keep mud off the tent or to cover the vestibule floor. Footprints help prevent dampness from the ground on the inside of the outer tent. We sell footprints that cover the entire underside of the tent including vestibules. They tie on to the rings, where the inner tent attaches to the outer tent, with toggles. The tent may be packed with the footprint tied on.
When returning from a trip make sure both pieces are fully dry before packing away.

4. Do I need to seal the tent seams?
A: Quality tents come with seams that are factory taped, which is not the same as sealed. Taped seams have a waterproof material placed between overlapped seams, which are then double stitched. This sewing technique adds to the strength of the seam and helps eliminate any gaps when the tent is stretched. These seams will be more water-resistant than normal seams, but they are not water-proof. The seams should still be sealed to ensure the best water-proof protection.
5. What the size should I choose?
A: Tents are advertised as two-man, four-man and so on. That rating practice and accompanying diagram, on the packaging will depict themaximum number of persons you can comfortably bed down for the night, assuming that you travel light or store your gear elsewhere. While this rating makes good sense for backpackers and campers who need little storage space, families and pet owners wanting the comforts of home and will crave additional elbow room.
A ten by ten foot tent is ideal for two adults with a small infant who want stand up space to change clothes and enough room for cots or a double mattress. Read the dimensions carefully and when in doubt, consider jumping up to the next size.
6. How to maintain my tent?
A: Tents should be stored dry, free of debris, and folded in the same fashion as when you unpacked the tent (assuming that you bought it new). I suggest that new tents be set up in your backyard and seams sealed before using them at the campground for the first time. For new tents, remember how it is folded when you remove it from the manufacturer's boxes. This is how you should refold and pack your tent for storage. However, it is better do not fold you tent always in the same way, as it will speed wearing of your tent. Poles, ropes, and stakes are usually stored in separate ditty bags, which are rolled up inside the tent.
Providing it's not raining when you leave the campground, always sweep out the inside of the tent with a whisk broom. Keep the inside of your tent free of twigs, leaves, rocks, and dirt.
If your tent is wet take the first opportunity when you get home to set it up in the sun to dry out thoroughly. This will help better avoid mold and mildew. Never store a tent wet. When your tent is dry, sweep it out again and refold it. It's also good to wipe off your tent ropes, poles, and stakes, and store them in separate ditty bags inside your tent.
